The Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing at Rutgers University announced on April 18 that it is launching the Shares Laboratory. The lab will use "big data" and a model of the national labor force to conduct research, monitoring, and policy-relevant work on all forms of equity compensation.

Bill Castellano, the co-leader of the Shares Laboratory, noted that a “huge number of Americans receive equity compensation... There are many individual studies on its impact, but there’s never been a dedicated research program until now."

The initial funders for the lab are Bank of America, Computershare, Fidelity Investments, and Paypal, and the NCEO will join other nonprofits in the field to share the results of the lab's work.

The Rutgers institute also recently appointed Adria Scharf (a keynote speaker at the NCEO's 2022 annual conference) as its Associate Director of Education and Collaborations.
