New Academic Fellows in Employee Ownership

On December 31, 2020, the Rutgers University Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing announced the 16 academic fellows for the coming year. The institute’s current and former fellows form a global research network of more than 100 scholars, from students to faculty, in disciplines including economics, law, sociology, history, business, and much more. The network includes the NCEO's Nancy Wiefek, Corey Rosen, and Loren Rodgers.

Joseph Blasi, the institute’s director and the J. Robert Beyster Distinguished Professor, said, "The institute is focused on one thing and one thing only: getting professors at Rutgers and those who are research fellows from the 5000 colleges in the U.S. to use their time to study employee ownership carefully and to share their findings with companies who can use their research to best manage employee share ownership in their companies. We want to encourage every college to teach about employee share ownership in their courses using our Curriculum Library for Employee Ownership (CLEO) that features a lot of NCEO mini-case studies.”

Among the topics to be explored by this year’s fellows are:

  • Ownership transitions by business owners, especially owners who are women or people of color
  • How the pandemic-driven recession is affecting people of color, immigrants, and the formerly incarcerated
  • New forms of employee ownership, such as the employee ownership trust.
