One of the most touted solutions to the repurchase obligation is corporate owned life insurance (COLI). The House Republican tax bill, however, would eliminate special tax preferences for COLI.

Colorado has become the most recent state to create a state employee ownership center. Governor Jared Polis has created the Employee Ownership Office as a standalone center in the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT). The office will have its own dedicated staff. It has $1.75 million in funding over the next two years.

Governor Jared Polis of Colorado has signed HB24-1157, a bill that provides statutory authority for the Colorado Employee Ownership Office, which Governor Polis created in 2020 through an executive order.

The Colorado legislature has passed a bill to expand its tax credits for converting to employee ownership, and Governor Jared Polis is expected to sign it.

On May 18, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed into law H.B. 1214.

On April 25, the Colorado state legislature passed a pro-employee ownership bill (HB17-1214).

Tomorrow, March 16, the Business Affairs and Labor Committee of the Colorado House of Representatives will consider HB 17-1214, designed to encourage employee ownership of existing small businesses.

A March 22 article in the Denver Post noted that Colorado Governor Jared Polis (D) is working to promote employee ownership in Colorado.
